Media role vital for development

SARGODHA - Federal Minister for Production Ch Anwar Ali Cheema has said that there can be no opinions about the significance of journalism and its role in the prosperity and development of the society. Due to this great importance, journalism has assumed the status of forth pillar of the state and indeed its has the real scale to measure the social, moral and intellectual progress of any society and it could provide the chances to reform the government along with the indication of local problems. Federal Minister for Production Ch Anwar Ali Cheema expressed the views while speaking at the oath-taking ceremony of the office-bearers of Sargodha Press Club here the other night. On the occasion, University of Sargodha (UoS) Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Ali, Director Livestock Dr Abdul Rauf Chaudhry, Prof Haroonul Rashid Tabasam, Editor Council President Zafar Mehmood Ch, President Press Club Muhammad Ashraf Nadeem, General Secretary Rana Sajid Iqbal also delivered their speeches to the participants of this tremendous ceremony while DIG Ch Muhammad Riaz Maken and other notable and dignitaries and the people from all walks of life graced the event with their presence. Earlier, the federal minister was warmly welcomed by the journalists when he arrived at the Press Club. Rose petals were showered over the honourable guest. Speaking on the occasion, Ch Anwar Ali Cheema said that he had a great love and affection with the city of Sargodha and he always look forward for its development and progress. He said thats why he got a huge development package in the regime of former Punjab Chief Minister Ch Pervaiz Elahi and launched development projects across the city which included provision of gas and electricity to 32 localities, construction of roads and streets while water supply schemes and sewage projects were also included in the package. He told that the government has imposed no restrictions on the print as well as electronic media neither would do so in the future and would utilise all out resources for the protection and welfare of the journalists. He also paid salute to those journalists who had sacrificed their lives and blood in the line of duty. He assured the local journalists of the provision of sui-gas and electricity to journalist housing colony and the construction of a multipurpose hall at press club.
