KURRAM AGENCY - Security forces continued advancement in central Kurram Agency in the operation launched against militants on one side, while on the other side, tribesmen fleeing the areas, where operation is going on. On the second day of the operation, sources said that security forces without any resistance from the militants cleared Manato, Domeki and Gawaki areas in the central Kurram from the militants. The forces on Sunday launched the operation named Spin Ghar, the famous mountain range, to flush out militants from the area. Sources said that officials of FATA Disaster Management Authority (FDMA) have asked the WHO and UNICEF to provide emergency health kits and facilitate them in assisting displaced families. They said that influx continued from the conflict-hit area as many families had either moved to their relatives in Lower Kurram or in government buildings. Besides, thousands of people including women and children are on way to tents. The FDMA had sent 500 tents and 200 non-food items to New Durrani Camp in Lower Kurram while UNHCR had also provided 500 tents. Agencies add: The Army has launched an air and ground offensive in Kurram. Army spokesman Major General Athar Abbas gave few details of the operation. But he said the offensive aimed to reopen the road to Parachinar, a Shia town on the Afghan border which has been cut off from the rest of the country and facing increasing attacks from militants.
