8,000 cops deployed for first Friday

LAHORE - The Friday prayers were offered amid tight security across the provincial metropolis as thousands of policemen were on-guard around Masajids and Imambargahs in Lahore to ensure foolproof security during the holy month.
A police spokesman said that at least 8,000 policemen were deployed across the provincial capital to keep a check on the movement of miscreants.
Lahore DIG (Operations) Waqas Nazir was monitoring the security situation minute-by-minute from the police headquarters. The armed police patrolling was intensified in the sensitive and most sensitive areas while police commandoes were also deployed at the rooftop of the nearby buildings where the Friday prayers were held.  Meanwhile, the DIG has directed the police to remain on their toes during Ramazan to ward off possible militant threats. All the divisional SPs are also directed to personally check the deployment of police force in their respective areas to ensure foolproof security at the worship places.
