Three persons lost their lives by drowning in canals while scorching heat claimed two lives in Sialkot district on Saturday.

Sambrial based Sadique Maseeh and Rasulpura-Sambrial based Ilyas drowned in Upper Chenab Canal (UCC). A rickshaw driver Kashif drowned in Upper Chenab Canal while bathing near Malkhaanwala.

The rescuers were busy in searching the dead bodies there. A large number of the people including women and children today thronged to the rivers, canals and water channels to get them cool while bathing there.

A rush of the people was witnessed at Head Marala-Sialkot along the banks of Rivers Chenab, Tavi and Jammu and along the banks of UCC near Sambrial, Malkhaanwala and Saahowala, Marala-Ravi-Link Canal neat Motra-Daska and Pasrur, Bambaanwala-Ravi Baidian Canal near Bambaanwala and Daska and Lower Chenab canal near Bambaanwala and Nandipur-Gujranwala.

The people were jumping into the rivers and canals waters and bathing there to save them from blazing heat and power outages. The practice remains unchecked leaving question marks on the performance of district administration.

The Head Marala is also a picnic spot near Sialkot along the banks of River Chenab, where a large number of people reach to rejoice the joy of natural landscape and beauty.

The boats are back in River Chenab at a picnic spot near Head Marala-Sialkot as the water level was souring up in River Chenab due to the recent heavy rains in Sialkot region and melting of the snow from Icy Alps of neighbouring Occupied Jammu & Kashmir after seven-year long closure of water by India in River Chenab towards Pakistan since 2008.

Likewise, scorching heat claimed two lives in Sialkot district. Worker Ehsan (60) died of heatstroke while working in his factory in Naikapura-Eimanabad Road Sialkot while his colleague Butt got fainted and was admitted to a local hospital in critical condition.

Bashir Hussain (62) also died of scorching heat in Pasrur city. Several people were also fainted due to sizzling heat and prolonged power outages in Sialkot, Daska, Sambrial, Pasrur, Badiana, Chawinda and surrounding areas here.

The people of Sialkot region experienced the hottest day of this summer season. Most of the roads, bazaars and shopping centres presented a deserted look.
