The Punjab government has failed to take steps to establish Thal Division despite the promise made 18 month ago by Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, said the office-bearers of an organisation.

Chief Minster had announced to establish the new division including districts Layyah, Bhakar and new proposed district Kot Adu to alleviate the grievances of South Punjab, they said. For Thal Division, a committee wa`s formed under the supervision of Punjab Minister Rana Mushhood Ahmad. The committee submitted a report for the establishment of new Thal Division with its headquarters of Layyah.

Layyah Division Banao Tahreek President Shahid Iqbal and Secretary General Sanaullah Wandar during a press conference stated that Punjab government was not serious to establish the Thal Division.

“In provincial budget, funds were not specified for the commencement of New Thal Division. The PML-N government always ignored the Seraiki belt. South Punjab could not get equal facilities as compared to the upper Punjab,” they said.

Iqbal announced protest and a sit-in after Eidul Fitr. He stated that Layyah Division Banao Movement would continue till the establishment of Thal Division. They said that the people of South Punjab demand their rights.
