Hockey chief selector Islah, Kamran resign

LAHORE - Pakistan hockey team chief selector Islahuddin Siddiqui and junior team coach Kamran Ashraf Saturday resigned from their posts after the team failed to qualify for the next year’s Rio Olympics.
Islah and Kamran resigned from their posts because of poor performance showed by Pakistan team in the World Hockey League 2015. Pakistan team will miss the Rio Olympics 2015. For the first time in the history of Pakistan hockey, the national team failed to qualify for the mega event. The national team also failed to qualify for the World Cup last year for the first time in the history of the event.
Pakistan team played match for fifth position stand but failed to deliver a punch to opponent team. Pakistan had a disappointing tournament as they had a solitary win in first game against Poland and two 2-2 draws against arch-rivals India and France; Pakistan also faced a 6-1 humiliating defeat against mighty Australia. Pakistan finished third in pool A after playing a second consecutive 2-2 draw against France. Green shirts were to play pool B’s second-placed team in quarters.
Pakistan team won gold medal in 1984 for the last in their history. It has also won four times bronze medal in Olympic Games. Pakistan team was part of Olympics since 1948.
