ISLAMABAD - The security agencies remained successful in foiling an attempt to attack President Asif Ali Zardari and have arrested eight terrorists from Islamabad and Punjab, reliable sources informed TheNation on Friday. The sources said that these terrorists were planning to target the President at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), where Hakim Ali Zardari was admitted. A total of eight out of 15 terrorists have been arrested, they added. The sources said that the President visited PIMS many times when Hakim was admitted there. Many terrorists impersonating themselves as labourers kept monitoring the movement of the President and providing information to their mastermind at Bhara Kahu, Islamabad. Meanwhile, the intelligence agencies intercepted the conversation and the President was asked to restrict his movement, the sources added. The sources said that later the security agencies arrested the mastermind from Bhara Kahu. During interrogation he revealed that 15 terrorist were given the task to attack the President at PIMS. The sources said that out of these eight terrorists, three were arrested from Islamabad while five others were held from Punjab. The IG Islamabad Police, when contacted, said that there were reports about attack on the President, however, he was not aware of any arrests. Monitoring Desk adds:?An attempt to kill President Asif Ali Zardari was foiled as eight plotters were arrested from Islamabad and Punjab, reported a private TV channel on Saturday night. Quoting sources, the TV channel said intelligence officials had been conducting raids for the past three weeks and had managed to arrest four people from Islamabad and four people from Punjab, who had been plotting to kill President Zardari. The sources said intelligence officials had been monitoring the trail of the plotters by tapping their mobile phone calls. The news channel said that many of the Presidents meetings during the funeral services of Hakim Ali Zardari had been cancelled due to security reasons. According to the TV channel, the security forces first got information about the plan from some terrorists to kill the President on May 21 by intercepting a call and arrested four of them from Islamabad and another four from different areas of Punjab on Saturday.
