Punjab to unveil Rs653b budget

ISLAMABAD (APP) The Punjab government is expected to unveil Rs 653 billion annual budget for 2011-12 in a few days. At least Rs 219 billion have been proposed for the development projects in Lahore while another Rs 20 billion are likely to be earmarked for local governments in the province, reported a private news channel on Saturday. Some Rs 6.30 billion will be allocated for hospital medicines and provision of food in jails. Rs 5.2 will be allocated for a special package for health sector while the Punjab Education Foundation and Endowment Fund will be given Rs 8 billion. At least Rs 7 billion are likely to be earmarked for housing, livestock, and transport sectors, and Rs 4 billion for agriculture, energy, government buildings and highways.
