OUR STAFF REPORTER WAZIRABAD - Wazirabad Assistant Commissioner Sheraz Manzoor inspected all flood protection embankments on the left bank of river Chenab and declared Haripur dyke unsafe in his report. A Railways Inspector works coordinated with him. Following the Gujranwala Division commissioners directives to make pre-flood arrangements properly, the AC inspected Haripur, Khanki Headworks, Chhanawan and Head Qadirabad flood protection embankments near river Chenab. According to reports, the Irrigation Department has started primary repair work at these dykes but the Railways Department gave no attention to Haripur dyke. The three-feet deep breach occurred on the surface of Haripur dyke may cause access to flood water towards villages, damaging Railway track and road as well. The AC directed to Railway official Ghulam Murtaza through to complete repair work of filling these breaches till June 15. AC Sheraz Manzoor told newsmen that all pre-flood arrangements will be completed according to plan. The Flood Control Centre has already been established which will work round the clock. Study report has been sent to higher authorities, he added.
