ISLAMABAD  - Caretaker Minister for Information Arif Nizami has said that the government has successfully completed the task of holding free and fair elections and transfer of power in a peaceful environment, hoping that the new government would resolve the crises confronting the country.
He was speaking at a luncheon hosted in his honour by former Secretary Information Syed Anwar Mahmud here on Tuesday.
Arif Nizami thanked the media for extending full cooperation to him in his task and hoped that the democratic government would complete its mandated tenure. He said the caretaker government was tasked to hold elections and that process has been completed. Mian Nawaz Sharif would take over as Prime Minister today (Wednesday) and a new tradition would be established in the country for orderly transfer of power.
He said the caretaker government fulfilled its responsibility to the best of its ability.
Recalling his long relationship of 40 years with Syed Anwar Mahmood, Nizami spoke high about him for his professional acumen and competence.
The luncheon was attended by President’s spokesman Farhatullah Babar, Secretary Information Agha Nadeem, Chairman PEMRA Chaudhry Rashid, former secretaries information Khawaja Ijaz Sarwar, Saleem Gul and Ashfaq Gondal, Principal Information Officer Imran Gardezi, Additional Information Secretary Chaudhry Mohammad Azam, Joint Secretary Zahoor Barlas and senior officers and journalists.
