Rawalpindi - The City Traffic Police (CTP) successfully controlled traffic flow in the city on the occasion of inauguration of multi-billion Metro Bus Service (MBS) Project performed by Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif in the Convention Centre here on Thursday.
As many as 350 traffic wardens have been deputed on Murree Road to keep the traffic flow smooth besides the reserve force that has also been brought from Jhelum, Chakwal and Attock to help the wardens to facilitate road users.
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Shoaib Khurram Janbaz, Senior Traffic Officer (STO) Zulfiqar, DSPs and Inspectors kept patrolling the whole day all the points on Murree Road to check the duties of wardens and situation of traffic.
A day earlier, CTP had announced a comprehensive traffic plan to avoid traffic mess on the eve of inaugural ceremony of Metro Bus Service project according to which parking was banned under the Metro Bus Service stations on Murree Road and in fast lines whereas special parking lots have been established for parking of vehicles.
Public vehicles was parked at Singapur Plaza, Kashmir Road, Liaquat Bagh, Gordon College, Dhoke Khabba, C Block Road, Rehmanabad, 6th Road, Siddiqui Chowk, Goal Road, Commercial Market and in Nawaz Sharif Park in order to move the traffic smoothly on Murree Road.
However, a gigantic traffic jam could be witnessed in Raja Bazaar and its adjoining areas like Jamia Masjid Road, City Saddar Road, Sooter Mandi, Iqbal Road, Dingi Khoe becasue of encroachments.
Talking to The Nation, Chief Traffic Officer Shoaib Khurram Janbaz said that his force controlled the traffic mess successfully on the eve of inauguration of Metro Bus Service project.
He said that cars, wagons, taxi cabs, trucks and motorcycles had been plying without any hindrance on roads all the day due to comprehensive traffic plan.
He said that some 350 traffic wardens were deployed to keep the traffic flow smooth.
He said that he also brought reserve force from other districts to tackle any untoward incident. “With the help of Almighty Allah, no untoward incident took place anywhere in the city,” he said.
Tehsil Municipal Officer (TMO) Rawal Town was not available for his comments over encroachments in Raja Bazaar area that have been causing bumper to pumper traffic jam in the area.
