VEHARI-An official report revealed that a Rs1.22 billion corruption was committed in DPO Office Vehari during 2008-2013 tenure of five district police officers including Ashar Hameed, Umer Akhter, Sharq Kamal, Shakar Hussain and Sadiq Ali.

The official documents and certified inquiry report of Inspector General of Police Punjab and Accountant General Punjab Zafar Hassan Raza revealed that at the office, the huge corruption was committed during the period through fake purchase of oil and maintenance of vehicles.

According to sources, the officials of finance department, Additional IG finance, District Account office and other high officials and accounts were involved in the huge corruption but no action has so far been taken against the corrupt officials. They said accountant of DPO office Abdul Sattar had Rs400 million assets but now he had been killed.

A police source said that inquires were conducted by additional inspector general finance Punjab, Finance Department, DPO office and other offices but the high-ups did not punish the culprits despite having sufficient pieces of evidence against them.

A member of the Punjab Assembly said that during the tenure of DPO Shakir Hussain, four dacoits had made of with 25 tolas of gold, Rs75,000 cash and other expensive valuables from her house on May 12, 2013. After the incident, the culprits were arrested and police recovered the stolen things from them but she has not been returned the valuables so far, she regretted. “If I have not been provided with justice, what happens with the common man,” he said. Punjab Accountant General Zafar Hassan Raza has sent the case to the National Accountability Bureau and the IG Punjab police recommended the Home Department to take action against the responsible.

District Bar Association President Malik Shabbir Awan said strict action should be taken against the corrupt officials. When contacted, DPO office spokesperson said that ex-DPO Sadiq Dogar recovered Rs6.7 million from the family of accountant Abdul Sattar.
