PESHAWAR - A local court on Monday granted 2-day physical remand to the police of the accused, who allegedly stripped naked a teenage girl in Kachi Mohallah in Peshawar few days back.

Officials of the Gulfat Hussain Shaheed Police Station produced the accused Mazhar Hussain before the judicial magistrate Ubaidullah and sought his physical remand in the case. The public prosecutor told the court that the accused had stripped naked a teenage girl and sought his custody for interrogation in the case.

A teenage girl was allegedly stripped in a crowded street in Kachi Mohallah locality to punish her family for filing a complaint against the accused at the local police station.

Shakila, 50, mother of the victim girl, told the police that a local Zafar clashed with her nephew Waseem on June 1 after which she and her family members lodged a complaint with the Gulfat Hussain Shaheed Police Station. She added that while on the way back home, she took her 15-year old daughter from the house of her brother.

She complained that Mazhar, brother of Zafar, intercepted them on their way back home. She claimed that Mazhar tore off the clothes of her daughter in public. When people around us rushed to help us, the accused escaped, she narrated. One of my relatives, Tanvir, covered my daughter with a ‘chaadar’, she added.

After the incident, Mazhar had left the area and kept shifting to Mardan, Rawalpindi and Hassanabdal. However, police on a tipoff arrested him a day earlier and produced him in a local court which later granted him on 2-day physical remand to the police.
