KARACHI - Second Chief of the Air Staff International Open Sailing Regatta will be organized April 8-15 here at PAF Yacht Club; it was officially announced here Tuesday. This would be second of the series in which teams from Egypt, Kazakhstan, Sri Lanka, and Turkey consisting of ladies/gents sailors/ officials have confirmed their participation. Other teams which are likely to come are Algeria, Bahrain, Iran, Kuwait, and Qatar. The Jury includes judges from Turkey and Egypt. The technical aspect will be looked after by Pakistan's renowned sailing official and International Race Officer Capt (Retd) A.R. Arshad. Young boys under 15 years of age have been selected from the poor families of the area and they are being trained for sailing. This initiative of PAF Yacht Club will prove to be a milestone in the history of sailing as first time in the history of sailing children belonging to those families who can not think about adopting costly sports like sailing have been picked to become the part of national team. These children are practicing hard to be able to take part in the forth coming Second Chief of the Air Staff International Open Sailing Regatta 2009. In this regard an introduction to the training camp was arranged at PAF Yacht Club. Air Commodore Naveed Khaliq TI(M), Base Commander, PAF Base Korangi Creek, who is also the President of PAF Yacht Club welcomed the media and appreciated the support that media is providing to promote sailing in Pakistan. He further emphasized that sports like sailing may be given more coverage on media to bring the name of Pakistan at international level as sports loving nation. He said this will also help in promotion of the sailing amongst the youth and bring forward the talent. He further briefed the media about the foreign teams which have confirmed their participation. Wing Commander Alam Secretary PAF Yacht Club urged the corporate sector to support upcoming sports like sailing in Pakistan. He said sailors of the countries that participated in the 1st CAS International Open Sailing Regatta held last year, hailed the level of arrangement and highly appreciated the quality of boarding and lodging. They were also impressed by the care and hospitality extended by the management of the regatta. Club is again committed to provide maximum facilities to the foreign teams.
