At least 14 miners were killed and 11 others injured Thursday when a coal mine collapsed in insurgency-torn Baluchistan province, officials said. The coal mine in the Sorange district caved in under a blast caused by accumulation of gas, mines department inspector Mohammad Ashraf told a foreign news agency. "Fourteen people died and 11 were wounded," district health officer Abdul Wahab said. The coal mine is run by the state-owned Pakistan Mineral Development Corporation. Officials said an inquiry had been ordered to determine the cause of the accident. Rich in mineral wealth, Baluchistan is plagued by an insurgency blamed on nationalist tribesmen demanding more jobs and royalties from the region's rich natural resources. Hundreds of people have died in the violence since 2004.
