NEW DELHI (AFP) - Indian Premier Manmohan Singh on Wednesday made his first public appearance since undergoing heart bypass surgery six weeks ago, and less than two months ahead of general elections. Television footage showed Singh, 76, smiling as he shook hands with Benin's visiting President Boni Yayi before a battery of photographers at the Premier's official residence in New Delhi. Doctors had said the Premier was likely to take four to six weeks to recover completely from bypass surgery on January 24 to treat a blocked artery. According to a Congress source involved in drafting campaign strategy, the premier is unlikely to campaign extensively for the April 16-May 13 elections.
