SYDNEY (AFP) - Fast bowler Steve Magoffin will join the Australian tour squad in South Africa as cover for injured pacemen Ben Hilfenhaus and Peter Siddle ahead of this week's second Test, selectors said Wednesday. Hilfenhaus and Siddle suffered niggling injuries after Australia's 162-run victory over the South Africans in the first Johannesburg Test earlier this week. West Australian Magoffin is one of the leading wicket-takers in this season's Sheffield Shield competition and chairman of selectors Andrew Hilditch said his call-up was a precaution for the second Test, starting in Durban Friday. "With Ben and Peter suffering some soreness following the first Test, and with such a short turnaround between the first and second Test, the selection panel has taken the precaution of adding another bowler to the squad," Hilditch said. "Magoffin has been a consistent cricketer in the Australian interstate competition for a long time now. "He is currently placed second on the leading wicket-takers list in the Sheffield Shield with 38 wickets and we are sure he will step up should the opportunity present itself in South Africa." Australian team physiotherapist Alex Kountouris said Hilfenhaus is suffering from lower back soreness and Siddle has some soreness in his left foot. Magoffin is the second bowler sent to South Africa this week after Tasmanian paceman Brett Geeves was summoned as cover for injured bowler Doug Bollinger.
