LAHORE - All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) has announced draws for the six-team Prime Minister Cup Invitational Football Tournament 2009. Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal Red, Nepal Blue are taking part in the competition along with a club team from Thailand and Bangladesh. Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal will declare open the show during colorful opening ceremony before Nepal Blue-Sri Lanka Group-A clash on Thursday, 5 March. Pakistan national soccer team, whose sports fraternity just received a huge blow after the deadly Tuesday attacks on Sri Lankan cricketers in Lahore, is set to be at Kathmandu on 7 March. The Republican Sports Federation of Nepal (RSFN) is organizing the event with the help of ANFA at the Dasharath Stadium in the Nepalese capital of Kathmandu from 5-15 March 2009. Muhammad Essa-led Pakistan will take on Bangladesh's Dhaka-based Arambagh Krira Sangha in their opening match on 8 March. RSFN assured the necessary preparations for the event have been completed. Security has been the major concern for the organizers following the Lahore Incident but President of RSFN Jayendra Bahadur Chand assured that it would be taken care of. He said, "We have stepped up security in the hotels where the players have been accommodated. In addition, we have mobilized police personnel in those areas to avert any kind of untoward activities." The tournament will be played in a league-cum-knockout format. Nepal Blue are pitted in Group-A with Sri Lanka and Thailand's JW Team while Nepal Red, Pakistan and Arambagh KS are in Group-B. Top two teams from both the pools will advance to the semi-finals.
