LAHORE- The Lahore High Court on Wednesday adjourned proceedings on a petition seeking directions for the speaker Punjab Assembly to send a reference to the election commission for the disqualification of Saba Sadiq for defecting her from the party after hearing partial arguments of the speaker's counsel. Advocate Shahid Jamil representing the speaker argued that the petitioner was not the competent authority to file the reference against MPA Saba Sadiq. He said party's leader and parliamentary leader were two different offices and the petitioner being leader of opposition in the Punjab Assembly cannot file reference before the speaker against any of his party's member assembly. Justice Umar Ata Bandial adjourned till today further proceedings on the petition filed by leader of opposition in Punjab Assembly Ch Zaheer-ud-Din, also PML-Q secretary general. In this case petitioner's counsel has concluded his arguments citing different judgments of the apex court to prove that the speaker was bound to send such a reference to the election commission, which had to decide it. Earlier Justice Umar Ata Bandial had disposed of the same petition while directing the petitioner to file reference again before the speaker after removing the objection for which the same was not forwarded to the election commission. Later the petitioner filed a new petition pleading that in the light of court's earlier order the reference against MPA Saba Sadiq was filed before the speaker but the same was not forwarded to the election commission.
