UN, donors to provide $13.3m

ISLAMABAD (PPI) - United Nations in Pakistan and donors would provide US$ 13.3 million to conduct accurate housing, population census in Pakistan. In this regard, the Federal Secretary Statistics Division and 7 Head of Agencies of UN entities in Pakistan here are signing a joint programme component document today at Statistics Division, Islamabad. The UN and donors would provide this amount to government of Pakistan to assist the housing and population census in Pakistan during the period 1st March 2009 to 31st Dec 2011. The main objective of the grant is to enable Pakistan's Population Census Organisation to adopt new technologies and approaches to conduct an accurate housing and population census in 2009. The govt and all development partners to formulate policies and programmes at the federal, provincial and district levels in support of poverty reduction and economic development will use the data generated.
