LAHORE - Abid from Gujrat clinched the first position of Rs 200,000 in the Punjab Sports Festival event of 17 KM Marathon Race.

The runner-up in the professional race was Sheraz of Army who earned Rs 150,000 whereas M Arshad of Sahiwal received third prize of Rs 100,000. The marathon commenced at 9:30 am from Punjab Stadium and crossing a distance of 17km, from Dharampura Bridge, the race participants came back at the finishing point of Punjab Stadium again. On the other hand, the 3 KM Family Fun Race started from the Siddique Trade Center and finished at Liberty Chowk.

In the family fun race, Kiran Rana of DG Khan won the first prize of Rs 50,000, Farhat Latif of Sargodha won second prize of Rs 40,000 while Maria Ghafoor of Lahore received third prize of Rs 35,000. Sadam Hussain of Faisalabad won the first prize of Rs 50,000 in male family fun race.

The total prize money for 17 km marathon race was 1,000,000 for 25 positions holders whereas Rs 2,50,000 was given to first 13 winners of the family fun race.

Deputy Speaker Rana Mashood Ahmed Khan distributed prizes among the winners and congratulated them on winning the race. Thousands participants were present in these races. Almost 7,000 of the athletes ran for marathon while 10,000 and above for family fun race.

An enthusiastic 50-year-old man Eric Jonson from Rawalpindi also participated in the 17km race. Talking to this scribe, the old man said that when he heard about the marathon race going to talk place here in the city, he said that he had started preparation for the race and then took part in it. He also congratulated Punjab government and Sports Board Punjab for holding such a successful event.
