LAHORE (PR) - The Rotary Global Swim marathon event was held at Shapes separate swimming pools for male and females.

The event was participated by a team of nine Rotarian and interact swimmers of Rotary Club of Lahore and 26 non-Rotarian swimmers including two girls ably led by Rotarian Col (r) Sajid Baseer Shaikh, a former international/national swimmer and former Vice-President of Pakistan Swimming Federation.

Besides Rotarian Col Sajid, other prominent swimmers like Khalid Zaman, Sikandar Khan and the golden girl of Pakistan Olympian Miss Kiran Khan also appeared in the contest. All the swimmers aged seven to 74 years swam 100metres in different styles.

These 35 Lahore swimmers were part of over 5000 swimmers from 25 countries of six continents qualified for Guinness Book of World Record for maximum participation by Rotarian and non-Rotarian swimmers swimming at the same time according to their local times equivalent to 1200-1300 hours GMT. The Global Swimarathon was organised in the world by Rotary Clubs of 25 countries to create awareness about Rotary's campaign "End Polio Now" and raising funds for the said campaign to the tune of US$60,000.

At the end of the competition, Col Sajid distributed polio caps and polio books among all the participants.
