Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif was elected Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Punjab president unopposed here in Lahore on Monday.
He was elected during a meeting of party’s General Council held at Aiwan-e-Iqbal. The meeting was attended by its chief Mian Nawaz Sharif and other senior leaders.
The PML-N announced that party’s General Council elected Shahbaz Sharif as President PML-N Punjab after no one submitted papers for this slot against the serving Chief Minister.
Mariv Memon, the former PML-Q leader who joined PML-N on Sunday, also attended the session.
Party workers warmly welcomed her on the occasion, applauding and raising slogans as the young political leader acknowledged the cheers of jubilant supporters.
The council also unanimously adopted a resolution, vowing for the struggle till recovery of all missing persons.
The council also condemned the Kohistan incident in which 18 people from Gilgit-Baltistan were slaughtered by the unknown armed men Tuesday.
Addressing the gathering, newly elected PML-N Punjab President, Shahbaz Sharif said that he was grateful to the general workers of the party who elected him for this position.
The CM reiterated that he would continue to serve people of Punjab by going to each and every corner of the province.
He said former dictator Musharraf has no roots in the country while the party leader Mian Nawaz Sharif is beloved leader of the nation.
