Lahore - The 1st PGF Ladies Amateur Golf Championship 2016 will tee off today (Saturday) here at the Lahore Gymkhana golf course.

For two days, a highly competitive ladies championship can witnessed at the historical Lahore Gymkhana golf course. This will be Pakistan's first ever exclusive ladies golf championship at the National level. It is being conducted by the Tournament Director Dr Asma Afzal Shami along with Mrs Yasmin Mubarik and Tahira Raza. All three ladies are members of the Pakistan Golf Federation (PGF) and holding the event on behalf of the PGF.

The participating ladies from Karachi, Peshawar, Rawalpindi, Islamabad and Lahore were passionately involved in honing their skills in the pre-tournament practice round. The event will be conducted in three separate categories which include gold (handicap 0-18), silver (handicap 19-36), and bronze (girls aged 10-15). The gross winner in the gold category will be declared the best lady golfer of the championship. A strong contender for winning this honor is Ghazala Yasmin (handicap 4) of Lahore Garrison Golf Club. Her nearest challengers going to be Ami Qin (handicap 7) of Islamabad Golf Club and Mrs Tahira Nazir (handicap 8) of Rawalpindi Golf Club.

The tournament is being financially supported by the PGF while a good amount of support is being extended by civil society. In this regard, the Gymkhana Club management is in the forefront while other sponsors are Pepsi, Shoe Box, NIT, SLIC, Ammar, Askari Bank and Leathertex.

A putting competition was held for little girls below 10 years and the winner was Amina Tiwana, second was Alaya Omer and Hadiya Osama was third.
