ISLAMABAD - Top seed Sara Mehboob defeated Natasha Afridi in straight set 2-0 to claim the title of the third PTCL-Subh-e-Nau Ladies National Tournament here at Islamabad Club on Sunday. The final score was 6-3 and 6-0. Sara Mehboob, teenager Pakistan number one girl, showed top performance to overcome a bit low ranked but tough competitor Nitasha Afridi in the final. Nitasha, who was partner of Sara in the doubles fixture of the same event, challenged the top seed player in start but Sara got control over situation very soon and won the first set at 6-3. In the second set Sara was in commanding position and played excellent forehand and backhand drives from down the line. She also hit powerful serves. Sara snatched the second game without conceding a single game at 6-0. Earlier, in the women's doubles final, Sara was also the winner pairing with Natasha Afridi. They overcame Sara Mansoor and her partner Saba Aziz 2-0 with the score-line of 6-0 and 6-2. They won the first set easily, however, their opponent bounced back in second set by breaking the first game of the set. Sara Mehboob and Natasha were too good for them and win the first game at 6-2. However, they did not allow their opponents to settle down in the court and finished the set with out conceding a single game. The chief guest Jan De Kok, High Commissioner of European Union to Pakistan distributed the awards and trophies among the players. The winner, Sara Mehbbob pocketed Rs.55, 000 along with a glittering trophy while runners up Natasha Afridi got Rs.35, 000. Cash awards of over Rs. 200, 000 were distributed among the participating tennis players according to the rules of ITF.
