KARACHI - Condemning the police operation in Lyari, the Sindh nationalists have announced protest rallies in Karachi and other cities of the province on Saturday.Sindh United Party chief Jalal Mahmood Shah, Jeay Sindh Qaumi Muhaz acting chairman Dr Niaz Kalani and general secretary Asif Baladi, Sindh National Movement chief Ali Hassan Chandio and others will lead the protest rally to be taken out from Regal Chowk to the Press Club. When contacted, a senior leader of the SUP, Shah Muhammad Shah, said the nationalist parties would take out province-wide rallies against the Lyari operation which, according to him, had been initiated against the Balochs to give political benefit to a coalition partner of the ruling PPP.He said the PPP’s popularity was rapidly declining among the Sindhis and Balochs because of its anti-people policies and failure to deliver. In an indirect reference to the MQM, the nationalist leader alleged that the PPP-led government launched the offensive just to appease its ally. The nationalist leader asserted that if the government was serious in taking action against criminals, it should have started an operation in all areas affected due to the scourge of targeted killings.Shah alleged that the government was in violation of human rights that should be immediately ended. Besides, a complete ban on supply of weapons be ensured. At least 40 per cent people of Lyari have migrated to other areas, Shah claimed as he accused the government of showing apathy towards this sensitive matter. He also demanded the government to initiate an indiscriminate operation in the city under the supervision of the Rangers in accordance with the orders of the Supreme Court on a suo motu of the Karachi violence.
