LAHORE-The PPP on Friday took out a rally in the City to express solidarity with Prime Minister Gilani after his conviction by the apex court with participants asking the judiciary why only the prime ministers belonging to the PPP were being punished.
Led by Special Assistant to the prime minister, Aslam Gill, it started from Nasir Bagh and culminated at Data Darbar after passing through the Lower Mall. Ch Ghulam Abbas, Ejaz Ashraf Gill, Ajmal Hashmi, Ali Badr and Sohail Malik were prominent on the occasion.
The participants, mostly on cars, wagons and motor bikes, were raising slogans against the judiciary and in support of PM Gilani. A good number of women activists led by PPP Lahore women wing general secretary Dr Tasneem Chaudhry also joined the rally.
The absence of PPP’s Punjab and Lahore chapters from the show was conspicuous on the occasion despite invitation from Mr Gill. According to sources, the PPP cadres under the command of party’s Lahore President, Samina Khalid Ghurki boycotted the rally due to differences with prime minister’s special assistant.
Addressing the participants, Aslam Gill said that today’s PPP gathering had proved that PPP was still alive in Lahore. He questioned why only the prime ministers belonging to the PPP were being punished by the judiciary. He said it was PM Gilani who ordered to restore the judiciary and proved that PPP government believed in an independent judiciary.
