Rehman Malik and Altaf Hussain discuss Karachi killings

ISLAMABAD/LONDON- Former Interior Minister, Rehman Malik telephoned the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Chief Altaf Hussain today and discussed the issue of MQM’s missing workers.
According to reports, Rehman Malik, who is also central leader of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), expressed condolence to Altaf Hussain on the killings of his party workers in Karachi. The MQM, which has recently rejoined the PPP’s Sindh government, gave a 72-hour ultimatum to the provincial authorities on Friday to investigate ‘extrajudicial killings’ of its members in Karachi. The deadline is ending today evening. The MQM said a new plan of action would be chalked out after the end of the ultimatum, which might include protest demonstrations on national highways, if demands were not met.
Rehman Malik expressed hope that the MQM would withdraw the ultimatum. He held out assurance to the MQM Chief that Sindh government, Rangers and other relevant institutions were investigating the murders. He said the Sindh government would not leave any stone unturned to bring the culprits to book. Altaf urged the ex-minister to play his role for the recovery of MQM’s missing workers.
