CJP takes sou moto of killings of labourers in Balochistan

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Mian Saqib Nisar has taken notice of the killing of six labourers hailing from Okara who were fixing a mobile tower in area Liji at District Kharan, Balochistan.

Taking notice of the incidents and security lapse, CJP has issued a notice to Chief Secretary and IGP Balochistan and fixed the matter for hearing on May 11th at Supreme Court Branch Registry Quetta.

Two of the six men, Amanat and Javed, were brothers while Mohammad Shahzad, Muhammad Waqas, Fajhar Rafeeq, Mazhar Fareed were included in the people who were shot dead.

The dead bodies of the labourers have been returned to their hometowns for burial.

Yesterday an unidentified gunmen shot dead six labourers in Quetta, officials said Friday, in the latest bout of violence to rock the restive region.

The murders took place overnight in Lajjey, about 170 kilometres (105 miles) southwest of Quetta, the capital of Balochistan province, where separatist militants are active.

"Unidentified gunmen shot dead six labourers and wounded another, who is in critical condition," local government official Hashim Ghilzai told AFP.

The labourers were working on a mobile tower and were sleeping in tents at the site when the gunmen attacked, Ghilzai said, adding that "it appeared to be an act of terror".

Local security official Tariq-ur-Rehman confirmed the incident and casualties. No group has claimed responsibility for the killings.

Moreover it has also been reported that almost one and half years back Chairman of District Council of same area was kidnapped and his whereabouts are still unknown.
