India building 75 dams on Indus

It has been reported in the Nawa-i-Waqt of 02-11-2010 that India is building 75 dams on Indus, Jhelum and Chenab which would not only store water but also divert water of Indus river to Sutlej and Ravi by means of a tunnel. This is a grave and worrisome news for Pakistan which has failed to build any dam on its three rivers in the last 35 years while India would tap water of our rivers by building scores of dams including Kargil dam on the Indus as one of the biggest in the world. Where are our sleeping beauties in their branded suits and sleek dyed hair? Where are our Cabinet members who do not bat an eye over the sinister Indian designs to divert water from our rivers? Unfortunately, the rulers are only raising the price of electricity and petrol. We have not built the vital Kalabagh dam while the Bhasha dam is being planned at the most dangerous site in a highly seismic prone area. The recent revelation by a prestigious Science Journal that the biggest crash on earth is due to tectonic pressure of Indian tectonic plate against the Asian plate beneath Tibet which has moved the Indian subcontinent by 2 meters over 50 years to the north. This joint collision has been ongoing for 50 million years to throw up highest mountains in the world and it also causes catastrophic earthquakes in southern, central and eastern Asia. Would any wise person consider that we are intent on building Bhasha dam in the most dangerous seismic area of the world witnessed in the recent severe earthquake in Azad Kashmir and adjoining areas while the safe area of Kalabagh dam is neglected which amounts to a criminal act in the face of scientific data. Our sleeping beauties ought to wake up from their slumber and build Kalabagh Dam as soon as possible. DR. MUHAMMAD YAQOOB BHATTI, Lahore, November 2.
