LAHORE Capital City Police Ahmad Raza Tahir has said that criminal elements cannot be allowed to harass law- abiding citizens and those indulging in negative activities would be dealt with an iron hand. According to a police spokesman, the CCPO said that during the last six months (from May to October), the police had launched a special campaign against illegal weapons, during which it registered 2807 cases and arrested 2816 culprits. Police also recovered illegal weapons including 27 Kalashnikovs, 143 rifles, 450 guns, 200 revolvers, 2405 pistols, 32 carbines, 50 daggers, 10 hand grenades, 50 knifes, 489 magazines and more than one lakh bullets during the campaign. Ahmad Raza Tahir stated this while talking to citizens at his office here on Friday. CCPO said that the crackdown had been launched against illegal weapons in order to rid the city of crime and criminal elements. He also directed the police further intensify the crackdown. He also said that the police had also been directed to ensure registration of FIRs at police stations without delay while strict departmental action would be taken against those showing laxity in this regard. 20 dacoits held: Iqbal Town division operations police claimed to have arrested 20 dacoits, recovered valuables worth million of rupees, motorbikes, cars, gold ornaments and etc from their possession on Friday. SP Operations Muntazir Mehdi told that four professional dacoits linked to an inter district notorious gang including Riaz Hussain, Arshad, Babar and Muhammad Din have been arrested. He said the arrested accused in connivance with a few businessmen were active in the City for the last several months. Mr. Mehdi further said four robbers namely Zartash, a ringleader, Sharafat, Shabir and Ansar have been nabbed. They used to harass employees of multi national companies whereas the police have also arrested two members Ali alias Kala and Rizwan of Rizwan dacoit gang. The SP claimed his subordinates were trying their best in making friendly police culture by rounding up the robbers and dacoits timely. He said, Four members of Partab dacoit including Partab, Raheel, Muhammad Ali and Sufiyan have been taken into custody during the last week. Muntaizr Mehdi said they have recovered 22 pistols, cash worth over Rs 15.5 million, live cartridges, a pick up, mobile phones, television sets, motorcycles, motorcars and others. He said around 38 cases have been traced against them whereas they have confessed to commit more than 52 felony acts across the Punjab.
