OUR STAFF REPORTER LAHORE The fourth Inter Schools, Collegiate Games will commence from November 15 to 19 here at various venues of the city. Talking to reporters here at National Hockey Stadium on Friday, Punjab Olympic Association (POA) president Syed Shahid Ali, who is also International Olympics Council (IOC) member in Pakistan, said: The association has requested the government to grant aid to organise this event in a better way and I am hopeful that the government will reply soon in this regard. He said no proper attention was being paid on the promotion of sports in the province and there was a dire need to provide all the basic facilitates to the young generation regarding sports so that they might be kept busy in healthy activities. A great number of entries from different schools and colleges showed that the youngsters want to play the games but the need of the hour is to provide them all these facilities to groom them in a very healthy atmosphere. The youngsters are very enthusiastic so now philanthropists should come forward and assist them financially for their bright future in the sports, he added. POA secretary Idrees Haider Khawaja said: We have invited other provinces to participate in the games and in response to this invitation Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa confirmed the participation of 20 players each. The boys competitions will be held in 23 categories while girls will take part in 14 competitions. The total budget of the games is approximately Rs2.3m while winner of ever competition will earn prize money of Rs5,000 each. Organising secretary, Tania Malik said 200 schools and 100 colleges confirmed their entries. In some of the games, we have so much entries that these competitions will have to stager before the commencing of the event. In basketball, 75 teams have confirmed their entries. Likewise the entries in the table tennis, badminton and football are more than our expectations.
