People suffer as 137 trains suspnded

LAHORE Pakistan Railways on Friday suspended 117 trains due to the unavailability of locomotives while the remaining rail operations was hit by the delays of hours at all the major stations across the country. As many as 86 locomotives were connected with passenger trains and only eight engines were available for freight operation, said the PR officials. According to the officials, the PR had to amalgamate eight passenger trains as well. The utility had announced four special trains ahead of Eid-ul-Azha to facilitate passengers. In this connection, two trains departed from Karachi and Quatta on Friday. According to the sources both the trains were late leaving the hundreds of passengers at both the provincial capitals stranded for hours. The first special train, according to the sources, which has to leave Karachi City Station at 11am to reach Lahore through Rohri, Multan and Khanewal was late for two hours. The second special train due to depart from Quetta at 12 noon to reach Rawalpindi via Rohri, Multan and Lahore could leave the station at 3pm, the sources said. On the other side, the outsides have started leaving Lahore on the occasion of Eid and the impact of the suspended trains was found massive at Lahore Railways Station. During a visit of the station, hundreds of people were seen stranded and the condition and views of the passengers clearly depicted their miserable situation. They were found exhausted with their families and luggage as all the trains were hours late. In a persisting situation of shortages, the delays in the remaining trains operation added insult to the injury of the passengers on the occasion Eid. There are reports that thousands had to wait for hours to reach their respective destinations at railway stations all across the country. On Friday, 1 Up Khyber Mail was late three hours, 7 Up Tezgam was late three hours, 9 Up Allama Iqbal Express for nine hours, 11 Up Hazara Express for six hours, 12 Down Hazara Express was late five and half hours. Similarly, Awam Express delayed five and half hours and 9 Down Awam Express reached Lahore two hours late. The officials told this scribe that Karachi Express was late for eight and half hours, 16 Down Karachi Express delayed for more than nine hours, 7 Up Millat Express delayed six hours and Karakarm was late for two hours.
