QUETTA - A complete shutter-down strike was observed in Baloch-dominated areas of the province on Friday to condemn the recovery of bullet-riddled bodies of Baloch missing persons and political workers. Balochistan National Party (Mengal) had given strike call which was also supported by other Baloch nationalist parties and students organisations. Seven bullet-riddled bodies of political workers and leaders of BNP, Baloch National Movement, Baloch Republican Party and Baloch Students organisation (Azad) have been recovered from Turbat, Pasni, Uthal, Khuzdar and Mastung over past two days. All shops, markets, banks, restaurants and all business activities remained closed for the day due to the strike while life remained at a standstill in these areas owing to the strike. The strike was observed in Turbat, Mand, Tumb, Pasni, Jiwani, Gwadar, Basima, Khuzdar and other areas. Local administration had made stringent security measures by deploying a large number of policemen, Levies and personnel of Frontier Corps in these areas to avoid any untoward incident. BNP had also announced observing a three-day mourning against the killing of Baloch missing persons and political workers. Voice for Baloch Missing Persons, a local organisation struggling for the recovery of missing persons claimed that over 300 bodies of missing persons have been recovered since June 2011 from different parts of Balochistan. Meanwhile, two power pylons of 220-kv on the Quetta-Guddu transmission line were partially damaged in an explosion which occurred in Chattar area of Naseerabad district on Friday. According to reports, unidentified people had fitted explosives device with pylon No 222 and 234 near Goth Kanri which were exploded and partially damaged both pylons. Resultantly, power supply to some areas were suspended. However, when contacted QESCO officials, they said power supply was not disrupted in the blast. Police and other law-enforcement agencies rushed to the site and after the incident and cordoned off the area. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack till filing of this report.
