ISLAMABAD- Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan today proposed the establishment of a Supreme Court commission to hold an independent inquiry into last year’s general elections.

Addressing a press conference along with Jamaat-e-Islami leader Siraj ul Haq on Wednesday, Khan said “Our sit-in will continue, but an independent commission can be set up to probe the alleged vote fraud.”

He reiterated that worst rigging was carried out in the previous general elections. “Why are PML-N people hiding behind stay orders? Are they guilty of rigging? Why are they scared of opening just four constituencies?” he questioned.

He said that both JI and PTI want an end to status quo in Pakistan. “Let me make it very clear that our struggle against status quo parties will continue,” he said.

“There should be no misunderstanding about our resignations as well. We have already resigned as we don’t accept Nawaz Sharif as legitimate Prime Minister.”

Speaking on this occasion, JI Ameer Siraj ul Haq said that there was need to introduce revolutionary electoral reforms. “We supported PTI’s demands from day one. All those who were involved in election rigging must be held accountable.”

He, however, said both parties were independent in their decision making. Haq said both PTI and JI want to turn Pakistan into an Islamic welfare state.

The JI chief urged the government to resume dialogue with the PTI.

Earlier, in order to reduce recent tension and misunderstandings between Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) and Jamat e Islami (JI), a meeting of the chiefs of both the parties was held here.

The PTI chairman Imran Khan reached the residence of deputy chief JI Mian Muhammad Aslam, to hold a meeting with the JI emir, Sirajul Haq.Chief Minister Pervez Khattak, Arif Alvi, Speaker KP Assembly Asad Qaisar and other senior PTI leaders also accompanied the party chairman on this occasion.

A few days ago, Imran Khan had asked the JI emir to stop playing on both sides of the wicket as he was mediating between the government and the defiant PTI on rigging and other issues.

Following the statement of Imran Khan, several PTI leaders had contacted Sirajul Haq, while the JI emir had also conveyed his concerns to the CM Pervez Khattak.

However, Sirajul Haq invited the PTI chairman for hi-tea, which Khan accepted and reached at the residence of Mian Aslam to discuss the matters.
