LAHORE - The first phase of annual Raiwind Tablighi congregation  will conclude today (Sunday) with special prayers for unity among Muslims and world peace.

It is estimated that around a million pilgrims will participate in the special prayers.

The Pakistan Railways and Lahore Transport Authority made special arrangements for the congregation. The second and final phase of the four-day congregation will start on Thursday. The Raiwind congregation takes place every year and due to lack of space at its centre, the congregation has been divided into two phases.

In the first phase thousands of people from Lahore, Peshawar, Quetta, Multan, Muzaffargarh, Layyah, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Khanewal and Vehari are participating, while those from Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Chiniot, Sahiwal, Swat, Kalam, Mingora, Miranshah, Wana, Waziristan, Karachi and Dera Ismail Khan will attend the second.

Religious scholars Maulana Jamilur Rehman and Haji Abdul Wahab delivered lectures on second day of annual Tablighi congregation at Raiwind. Maulana Jamil and Haji Wahab laid stress on peace and unity among mankind. They said Islam is religion of peace and it dissociates itself from those who spread violence and hate. The Pakistan Railways is operating special trains to facilitate the participants. Similarly, the Lahore Transport Company, in cooperation with private transport operators, is running a 25-bus shuttle service for the attendees.
