KARACHI: - District Municipal Corporation (DMC-West) Administrator Ghulam Fareed has expressed dissatisfaction over the low tax recovery and warned the department officials to meet the tax target. 

Presiding over a joint meeting of zones' officers, he directed that extra measures be taken to meet tax recovery targets for starting development work. 

The administer further said that departmental action would be taken against recovery officers for not achieving the target of their respective zones. 

He also directed the officers to make sure the provision of civic facilities to the masses. 

IGP takes notice of police ‘torture’ on media team  

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh AD Khawaja has taken notice of media reports regarding alleged police torture on the team of a private TV channel. A police statement said that the IGP also took notice of the negative approach of the SHO. 

The IGP has sought a detailed inquiry report and police measures from the DIG East, it added. 

12,000 litres of smuggled diesel seized  

The Mouchko Police on Sunday foiled a bid to smuggle Iranian diesel into the mega city, Superintendent of Police (SP) Kemari Division Arif Aziz told the media persons here on Saturday. 

He said acting on an information about the smuggling of diesel, the police started checking the vehicles at Mouchko checkpost. During the checking, 12,000 liters of Iranian diesel was seized from the water tanker bearing the registration No JT-2562 which was concealed in its specially designed hidden cavities. The driver managed to escape while the tanker was handed over to the Customs authorities for further action. 

Meanwhile, Kemari Division Police arrested five criminals from the Mouchko and Jackson areas and recovered a pistol, 3370 gram Hashish and packets of Gutka from their possession. 

The accused were identified as Imam Bux, Tariq Niazi, Asif Zaman alias Bangali, Saleem Khan and Nouman.
