KARACHI - Inspector General of Police (Jail) Yamin Khan on Satruday, suspended 13 police officials including Jail superintendent, on the charges of negligence and incompetence as two young prisoners managed to flee on different occasion, The Nation has learnt. Sources said that one of the prisoner Mohammad Asif Sattar son of Mohammad Ali fled from the jail through nullah on Friday. While another Jail inmate Jamil Ahmed alias Katti, managed to flee in the cover of amnesty announced by presidential order on the Eid occasion. Sources also told that order of release issued for another person who was also Jamil Ahmed and he was booked under minor cases. Sattar was accused of two separate cases including 13-D and robbery. Sharah-e-Faisal police arrested him and registered FIRs No. 709/08 and 710/08 against him. The accused was shifted to Juvenile jail situated in the premises of Karachi Central Jail where he was under trial. He fled to the Jail through storm water drain on Friday, and when counting of the prisoners was conducted, the administration found him absent. On the other side, Jamil Ahmed alias Katti was mistakenly released by the jail management a day before the Eid, while released orders were issued for another person who was also called by the name of Jamil. The accused was allegedly involved in Lyari gang war and was the member of Lyari's prominent gangster group Rehman Dakait. He was a resident of Nawa Lane, Lyari and was arrested by Kalakot police in the cases of narcotics and 13-D. When the matter came into the knowledge of IG Jail Yameen Khan, he took stern action against the responsible persons and suspended 13 police officials. Meanwhile, DIG Jail Mumtaz Burney when contacted said that two separate FIRs have also been registered in New Town Police Station (PS) and Shah Latif PS against the jail staffers including superintendent on the charges of negligence, adding that the further action will be taken against them according to departmental law. The suspended officials are Jail Superintendent of Landhi and Juvenile Younus Masih, Assistant Jail Superintendent Liaquat Ali, Assistant Jail Superintendent Saleemuddin, Jailer Ghazanfar, three clerks Pir Masood, Muzamil, Zulfi, chief warder Zulfiqar, SG warder Arshad, OG warder Afzal, another OG warder Sikander and others. In the meanwhile, Nusrat Mangan, a KCJ Superintendent has been delegated the additional charge of Juvenile and Landhi jail.
