KARACHI - Nazim Karachi, Syed Mustafa Kamal has said that Signal-free Corridor-II will be inaugurated within one week where after all of its development projects will be opened for traffic. "It is the first occasion that city government officers, staff and workers of contract firm, along with City Nazim, were on work on the second and third day of Eid-ul-Fitr", he pointed out during an inspection of development works of Gulshan and Nagan Chowrangi flyovers on Friday-Saturday night. Mustafa Kamal said that to provide facilities to people, the City Nazim, city government officials and staff preferred to work on development projects instead of celebrating Eid with their families and work on ongoing development projects did not stop except for one day. He said after inauguration of Corridor-II, one more promise made to people of Karachi will stand fulfilled. City Nazim said that like Corridor-I, the five flyovers and a number of U-turns of Corridor-II were completed in less than one year which is a record. He said Gulsgan flyover suffered delay because of the contractor, otherwise it, too, would have been completed in 8 months. He issued directive for immediate start of carpeting work and installation of lights, removal of debris around under-construction projects and under-taking plantation and development of greenery at green belt. Nazim directed that immediate steps be taken for installation of lights and fixing of cat eyes on entire corridor from Sharea Faisal to Surjani Town. He announced that after Corridor-II, work on development projects of Corridor-III will be started. It may be mentioned here thath six flyovers have been constructed on Corridor-II at Askari-IV, Jauhar Morr, Gulshan Chowrangi, Sohrab Goth and Nagan Chowrangi while mordern U-turns constructed at Askari-IV Rashid Minhas Road, Habib Bank, Sports Complex and Surjani Town. In order to beautify the Corridor, thousands of trees are being planted and greenery developed.
