ISLAMABAD - Expressing his firm commitment to continue fighting terrorism till return of peace, President Asif Ali Zardari said Saturday that nation could root out terrorism if it showed unity and strength. The President urged the people to forge unity against terrorism and fight it to save their country. He said this while talking to Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, Awami National Party (ANP) President Asfandyar Wali and Chief of the Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani in a meeting here at Aiwan-e-Sadr. They called on him to discuss the overall security situation of the country with special focus on tribal areas and North West Frontier Province. Earlier to this meeting, the Army Chief also separately met the President. Later on, the PM and ANP Chief joined them.     The meeting discussed law and order situation in the country, particularly, in the troubled tribal regions and NWFP. The meeting resolved to devise a comprehensive strategy to fiight terrorism and extremism. The Army Chief apprised the meeting of the ongoing operations in the restive tribal areas and in some pockets of NWFP. He was hopeful of having positive results of these actions against the militants, especially in Bajaur Agency and also in Swat valley. President Zardari said Pakistan would continue its war against terrorism, till resumption of peace in the country. He said nobody would be allowed to spread hatred in the country that could prove detrimental to the national sovereignty. The matters relating to the Army's professional capabilities also came under discussion. Zardari expressed satisfaction over the competence of the armed forces that could efficiently tackle difficult situations. President Zardari and Prime Minister Gilani condemned the suicide attack on Asfandyar Wali Khan, which took place on the 2nd day of Eid-ul-Fitr in his 'Hujra' at Wali Bagh, Charsadda. Zardari said people belonging to all provinces should fight against the menace of terrorism and extremism to save the federation. Prime Minister Gilani said the government was committed to wiping out the scourge of terrorism, which was targeting the people of Pakistan. He said that unflinching resolve of political dispensation along with the backing of the entire nation would frustrate the ulterior designs of terrorists. Gilani reiterated his government's resolve for the uplift of tribal areas, which he said would help in eliminating negative tendencies among the locals. The ANP chief said the coalition partners would extend support to the government in its commitment towards the eradication of terrorism. He held the foreign elements responsible for suicide attack against him, and said that such cowardly acts could not deter ANP from pursuing national policy to ensure peace and stability in the country. Asfandyar Wali termed the formation of 'Tribal Lashkar' against the miscreants as "good development" and hoped it would yield positive results. He was optimistic about the situation, saying everything will be right soon. ANP's history was full of sacrifices and the Party was not afraid of such tactics, he asserted. Monitoring Desk adds: It was decided in the meeting that the government and the military should immediately extend full cooperation to the tribal lashkars who are helping security forces in flushing out militants from tribal areas, reports BBC quoting sources in Aiwan-i-Sadr. According to sources, Gen Kayani condemned the attack on Asfandyar Wali and assured provision of Army's help in its investigation. Kayani further told the meeting that the military operation in Bajaur will continue and the move was endorsed by Zardari. The Army Chief also said security forces were having success in Bajaur and a large number of militants had been eliminated. Kayani also briefed the President on his recent visit to Bajaur, Malakand and Peshawar.
