PM asks Sports Ministry to probe flag raising fiasco in CWG

ISLAMABAD Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani, taking serious notice of flag raising issue in the Commonwealth Games on Monday, asked the Ministry of Sports to probe the issue and submit a detailed report. The Prime Minister ordered the Ministry of Sports to submit initial report in the next couple of days as the flag raising issue was reported by media on Sunday night during the opening ceremony of the 19th Commonwealth Games. Chef-de-Mission Syed Mohammad Ali Shah, who is also Sindh Sports Minister, held the national flag instead of Shujaud Din Malik. Shuja was nominated to hold the national flag in the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games as he was Pakistans only gold medallist of the 18th Commonwealth Games held in Australia in 2006. The PM took serious notice of act of Dr Mohammad Ali Shah. It was amazing to see Dr MA Shah carrying the green flag in the ceremony. President Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) Lt Gen (Retd) Syed Arif Hasan was also upset on seeing this, a source from India told TheNation.
