LAHORE - Asian Development Bank (ADB) Country Director Rune Stroem called on Wapda Chairman here at Wapda House on Monday. He also held a meeting with the authority to discuss the process of land acquisition and resettlement adopted by Wapda for its projects in water as well as hydropower sector. Presiding over the meeting, the Chairman said that Wapda had devised a comprehensive policy for its future projects in such a manner that none of the people was adversely affected during implementation of the projects. He said that Wapda, learning from its experiences in execution of its mega projects, had now consulted the stakeholders in formulation of the policy. All possible measures have been taken to induce a positive impact in the life of the people who will be affected during the construction of Wapda projects, he added. Chairman said that Wapda was initiating a number of mega projects with a view to the increasing demand of water and electricity in the country. These projects will not only culminate into an era of improved economy through agriculture sector but also contribute low-cost hydro electricity to the national grid. The ADB Country Director, commenting on the land acquisition and resettlement policy framed by Wapda for its upcoming projects, said that the work done during the process was quite impressive. Earlier, Wapda GM (Land Acquisition & Resettlement) Dr Raheel Ahmed Siddiqui briefed the meeting about the salient features of the policy. The meeting was attended by Wapda Member (Water) Syed Raghib Abbas Shah, Member (Power) M Qasim Khan, Acting Member (Finance) Syed Nazakat Ali Shah, Wapda Secretary Imtiaz Tajwar and other officers.
