ISLAMABAD (Agencies) - A US drone strike killed nine suspected militants including eight Germans in North Waziristan on Monday, Pakistani intelligence officials said. Eight German rebels of Turkish origin and one local militant were killed in the strike, a security official said, adding that officials were trying to gather further details of the dead and their group. Another security official told AFP that some European nationals including Germans were killed in the strike, without giving an exact number. They died when two missiles from a suspected CIA pilotless aircraft struck a mosque in Mir Ali about 20km east of Miranshah in North Waziristan, the officials added. People were gathering at the mosque for prayers when a missile hit the building, Mohammad Alam, a resident of Mir Ali said describing Mondays drone strike. The area has been cordoned off by people and they are not allowing anyone there. The strike came a day after the United States and Britain warned of an increased risk of terrorist attacks in Europe. Western security officials said last week they believed a group in northern Pakistan was connected to a plot to stage attacks. The suspected militants were members of a group called Jihad-e-Islami, the Pakistani intelligence officials said without elaborating. There was no independent verification. Another security official in the area confirmed the strike and casualties and said the death toll might rise.
