The defense ministry said Tuesday that Japan will conclude its flood relief operation in Pakistan on Sunday. According to a Kyodo News report, the decision was made by Defense Minister Toshimi Kitazawa, senior ministry officials and uniformed officers from the Self-Defense Forces in a meeting. Kitazawa said at the meeting that the Pakistani government asked Japan on Friday to end its mission to transport relief materials in central Pakistan as the situation had improved there. As the relief operation is to come to an end, Japan will withdraw its six helicopters and some 200 troops of the Ground Self-Defense Force from the Southern Asian country.
