LAHORE - Lawyers on Monday announced to observe Tuesday (today) as 'Black-Day to condemn the police torture of lawyers and violating the sanctity of Lahore Bar Association office. It was decided at a meeting of the LBA held here at Aiwan-e-Adl which was attended by Pakistan Bar Council vice chairman Kazim Khan, Chairman Nasrullah Warraich, Punjab Bar Council vice chairman Mumtaz Mustafa, chairman executive Akram Rana, Punjab Bar Council members - Tahir Nasrullah Warraich, Rana Qamar, Ghazala Khan, Maqsood Bhuttar, Lehar Rashid Gondal, Rai Bashir Ahmad, Numan Qureshi, LHCBA President Abdul Qadus, Secretary Babar Murtaza and Finance Secretary Sajid Hanif and members from other districts. Addressing the meeting, PBC VC Kazim Khan announced observing Tuesday (today) as Black Day. He said that the lawyer community would observe a complete strike to condemn the police torture of lawyers, especially of female lawyers and violating the sanctity of bar room. Speaking to the participants, former SCBA president Ali Ahmed Kurd claimed that lawyers were more honest than judges. He said that LHC CJ Khawaja Muhammad Sharif should resign forthwith as he could not address the lawyers issues. LBA Secretary Qasim Hassan Bhuttar said that the meeting of lawyers unanimously demanded the LHC CJ to resign for becoming a party to the matter of Zawar Sheikh. PbBC VC Mumtaz Mustafa also spoke on the occasion. After the meeting, the lawyers took out a rally from Aiwan-e-Adl to PMG Chowk to express solidarity with the LBA, for its demand for the transfer of District and Sessions Judge Zawar Ahmad Sheikh.
