LAHORE - The Opposition in Punjab Assembly has decided to bring a resolution in the House in favour of Kalabagh Dam (KBD). Addressing a news conference at assembly secretariats committee room, Leader of the Opposition, Ch Zaheeruddin said it was time that KBD should be constructed without any further delay to end energy crisis. He said his party would bring a resolution in the House on Tuesday (today) to highlight the issue. He was of the view that country could not make progress without cheap electricity, which would come only through construction of KBD. The Opposition Leader also demanded distribution of water among the provinces in accordance with the 1991 water accord. Zaheeruddin alleged that Punjab had become a police state. He said the province should be rum according to the constitution and not by the police. He said provincial government was using Police against protesting citizens and everyone including doctors, lawyers, judges, professors, students, clerks and labourers was perturbed over the situation. He said Punjab CM should himself respond to the questions on law and order by attending assembly session regularly. He also asked the chief minister to ensure protection of Punjabis in Balochistan by taking up the issue at higher level. Zaheer said government should constitute a committee for transparent utilisation of Rs 01 billion deposited in personal account of the CM by philanthropists for rehabilitation of the flood victims. He said Public Accounts Committee would also keep a watchful eye over the spending from this account. The Opposition Leader asked the government apprise the House in black and white about its relief programme. He criticised the government for its proposed imposition of newer version of GST, saying that it would further burden the flood affected people. LAC to present stage play Lahore Arts Council (LAC) will present a stage play as a parallel theatre Tokery Thalley to promote the classical values of theatre on Wednesday (tomorrow) at Alhamra. According to press release issued here on Monday, the play would be presented on October 15 having rich cast of renowned stage actors including Irfan Khoosat, Anwar Ali, Aslam Shankr, Khalid Moeen Butt and others.
