LAHORE - Former President and PPP Co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari has said no conspiracy against democracy will be tolerated and added the elements out to create anarchy in the country will not succeed in fulfilling their agenda.
Addressing a party meeting of the leaders from South Punjab at Bilawal House here on Saturday, the former president said PPP had given tremendous sacrifices for the sake of democracy and supremacy of the Constitution in the country, vowing it would not compromise on them. He said the designs of those attempting to spread anarchy in the country would be frustrated.
Meanwhile, the PPP co-chairman who will stay in the city till October 9 is likely to meet Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif at Raiwind on the second day of Eidul Azha. Sources say a meeting of the two leaders is under discussion, but has not so far been confirmed. They further say if the meeting is held, it would be a sort of a courtesy call on Eidul Azha.
Meanwhile, the former president held meetings with the PPP city office bearers and workers. As per sources, the office bearers and workers expressed their displeasure over the party policy of reconciliation with PML-N and said the ruling party was a political rival of PPP and reconciliation with it was not being liked by a common worker.
They added this policy was also damaging the unity of the party. The PPP workers asked the co-chairperson to review this policy.
The sources further said the workers also recorded their complaints against the party leaders who held the ministerial portfolios in the past. During the last PPP rule, they were badly ignored and sidelined, the workers complained. They also named some persons who were responsible for their humiliation. Asif Zardari assured them of removing their grievances and solving their problems. He added he was now in the city with a determination to unite the party and take care of their problems.
The PPP sources said that while staying in the city, Asif Ali Zardari would continue meeting the party leaders and workers from different parts of Punjab in addition to sorting out the organisational matters in the province. He is also expected to visit other parts of the Punjab as a part of his mass-contact campaign.
The former president’s visit to the city aims at galvanising the party in the Punjab. For this purpose, he has decided to reach out even to the disgruntled leaders and workers to reactivate them for the cause of the party.
