ISLAMABAD - Zimbabwe cricket team's highly unsporting behaviour spoiled the second One Day International, which could have been one of the best matches in recent times had Zimbabwe team not used dirty delaying tactics. It was quite lamentable that a team, which was given such a tremendous welcome by Pakistani crowd when they toured Pakistan and they had promised not to forget such warm and memorable welcome, reciprocated in such a way. Sensing defeat, Zimbabwe players forget all ethics and behaved like school-going kids, who upon sensing decision against them pulled off wickets and pack their luggage.

Umpires must be considered equally responsible for the entire situation. A match which continued even during rain showers has to forcefully stopped by Zimbabwean fielders, who kept on using delaying tactics and forcing their skipper to walk off from the pitch sighting so-called bad light.

It is the batsman, who could complain about bad light not the fielder and the most importantly, Zimbabwe team wasted too much precious time during overs and setting field and on field umpires should have given strict warning to them rather than melting under pressure and given benefit to the home team. ICC once again reacted against Pakistan. Whenever there is an issue, ICC, which stands more now as Indian Cricket Council than international as they behave and act like some specific country organisation rather than world cricket governing body, always gave decision against Pakistan.

It is true, Pakistan team selection and other areas need to be addressed. But it is also true that Shoaib Malik and Aamir Yamin had almost pulled off one of the highly unlikely victories for Pakistan. Team management reasons best known to them dropped highly valuable asset Immad Wasim and out of form Ahmed hahzad and gave debut to Bilal Asif while Asad Shafiq was once again given nod of approval. God knows better, why so many opportunities being provided to a player, who is best suited to Test format only. But due to belonging to a certain city players are being adjusted as if there is a quota system adopted than merit for selection of a national team is selected on merit.

Azhar Ali made very strange decision of opting to field first, Zimbabwe punish Pakistani bowlers at will, Azhar looked completely out of sorts, it would have been far better to give rest to players, who had performed Hajj, as they were tired and required rest after hectic schedule, but team management and selectors had other ideas, last match hero Yasir Shah was not even used for his full quota of overs, highly off color Wahab Riaz keep on enjoying selectors blessings as despite highly ineffective and highly expensive, he manage to grab a spot in starting XI, he bowled superbly in world cup, but after that he is no where near what he had showed, although he did manage to grab 4 wickets but he gave away 63 runs, his last overs cost Pakistan the match, as he was too expensive in the depth overs, Wahab should have been used much earlier, bowling in depth overs is never easy, a bowler well short of confidence should not be handed over responsibility of bowling the last few overs.

Zimbabwe posted a very decent total of 276 for the loss of only 6 wickets, a team that bundled out for a meager 128 in the first match, bounced back in style, thanks mainly to poor team selection, above all worst captaincy by Azhar Ali, Pakistan started run-chase in worst possible fashion debutant Bilal was sent to open the innings, when Hafeez was in the squad, then why a youngster was made scapegoat, Hafeez is occupying spot in the team, despite being completely out of touch, Pakistan lost first 6 wickets with only 76 runs on the board, only Shoaib Malik was at the crease, while Aamer Yamin was his partner, but one must admit, it was a treat to watch Malik batting with full authority and young Aamer giving him not only full support but also batted superbly, it was 101 runs 7th wicket stand, which almost turn the table son the hosts, Wahab was worst to watch batting like a scared baby, he ran himself out, things were not looking good for the green caps, but all of a sudden, Yasir Shah batted brilliantly and along with the man of the moment Shoaib Malik almost brought Pakistan closer to victory, realizing, match slips out of hands, Zimbabwean team used highly cheap tactics, they wasted hell lot of time, umpires were looking just meager spectators, hardly bothered about the ground reality and all of a sudden when Pakistan required only 21 runs in 12 possible deliveries, entire Zimbabwe team went out of the ground sighting bad light, umpires doesn't even bothered to stamp out their authority, it is the time, instead of living like cowards, PCB must lodge very strong protest with ICC and ensure such things not happen in future, it was the spirit of the game ,which lost its charm, not Pakistan team, although Pakistan lost the match by 5 runs on D/L method, but they won hearts and minds and even commentators were full of praise for Pakistan team, Zimbabwe team must feel ashamed on what they had done with the beautiful game.
