Thank you, teachers!

Better than a thousand days of diligent study is one day with a great teacher

World Teachers Day is celebrated each year on October 5th, and this year World Teachers Day is going to mark the 22nd anniversary of the adoption of the 1966 ILO/Recommendation Concerning the Status of teachers.

After parents, teachers are the only source of providing better education and a better life worldwide. It was estimated that by 2030, 3.2 million more teachers would be required to gain universal primary education and around 5.1 million more for the purpose to achieve universal lower secondary education.

On October 5th, different events are organized in various countries. These events include celebrations to honour teachers in general or those who have put a special contribution to a particular community. The day is marked for the importance of teachers and learning, extra training sessions for teachers, to increase the profile of teachers and the role they play in our society. In some places posters are fixed and some students send greeting cards/letters to their teachers who have made a special or memorable contribution to their education.

Teachers do whatever maximum in their capacity for the children as they sacrifice their own career just for the benefit of the students. They are ready to support the children in their hard times, and teachers have capability to turn a hopeless situation into an amazing opportunity. Whenever they see the students suffering from problems, they pay attention and invest their time to help them succeed. Especially the girls, minorities and disabled students, and teachers also organize special programmes for their mental health and encouragement. When students think that a subject is too much tough to learn, so a great teacher is present to tell them that they can do it. Nothing is impossible, so give more time to the studies and learn whatever desired.

Over 100 countries celebrate this auspicious occasion and appreciate their teachers. The efforts which teachers have made toward the individual society, so these are admirable. This day provides many opportunities to draw the public attention towards teachers' efforts. The more teachers will be motivated or appreciated the more greater individuals would be created and teachers, no doubt in return would feel proud for the respect they receive. In this way, teachers will never be disappointed, and they will always lead the students to the right path.

Undoubtedly, teachers are the builders of any nation. Whatever the children' face teachers support them and make them realise their skills with wisdom and knowledge. But in today's world around 1.4 million teachers are missing in classrooms due to which nearly 250 million children are deprived from the basic learning.

The international communities and governments need to stand united to support teachers and quality learning worldwide, especially in those countries where highest number of out-of-school children are present. A message should be spread that teachers are the key, afterall, an education system is solely dependent upon a teacher.

According to a Japanese proverb, “Better than a thousand days of diligent study is one day with a great teacher.” There’s truth in those words, as anyone who has ever had a great teacher will know!
