"Our policy is based on five E's - employment, education, energy, environment and equality", said the former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto on November 30, 2007. For the last five months, her party has been in power but has done nothing on the five E's. I take the last E of equality to mean access to justice for everyone, be it Dr. Aafia, Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan or Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry. Benazir Bhutto's widower, Mr. Zardari, now says promises are not dictums of Quran or Hadith that necessarily have to be fulfilled. Does that apply to PPP manifesto also? I am sure Mr. Zardari is least bothered about his quickly deteriorating political standing at the national level. He knows it is his first and last chance of coming into power. -ABDUL RAUF, Fateh Jang, via e-mail, August 25.
